 My family and I

Who is My BabyLingua?

Hi! My name is Vanessa Falcony and I’m the creator and founder of My BabyLingua. Thank you for visiting my website!
Let me tell you a little bit about who I am and how MyBabyLingua began. I was born and raised in my beloved Quito, Ecuador, in South America. I am a native speaker of both, Spanish and English. My mother was born and raised in the USA and my father was born and raised in Ecuador, but lived many years in the USA; my 3 siblings were born and raised in the USA as well. They decided to make a big change and moved to Ecuador, where two years later, I was born. From all this mixture, I was raised in a bilingual home and immersed in two very different cultures. And I love it! Because some family members became passionate about language learning, they became educators. I’ve been influenced by them my whole life, so my shared passion has always been languages and their unique worlds.

I hold a Linguistics and Translation degree from Universidad Católica del Ecuador (PUCE), as well as a CELTA teaching certificate from Cambridge University, England. In addition, I've attended many seminars and conferences in regards to languages throughout my entire professional life. I continue my education on a daily basis by reading, researching, and learning the most updated information out there.  Also, I have a Life Coach certificate, which aims at helping people obtain their goals through realistic and attainable expectations.

I have 29 years experience in teaching language acquisition in English and Spanish to many people from around the world and from as young as newborns. As an instructor, I've taught all English levels, conversational classes, Linguistics, Phonology, Writing, TOEFL preparation, Public Speaking, and more. I've taught in big and small classrooms and private students, at academies, Universities, businesses, at my own home, and at family's homes. In addition, I was the English Teaching major Coordinator at Universidad de Los Hemisferios, in Quito, Ecuador.  Among some of the many roles I performed as a coordinator, one was doing class observations of our students in this major when teaching at the schools they worked in, and provided them with feedback to better improve their skills. Our English Teaching department provided monthly training seminars to teachers from all schools in the city. Furthermore, I was invited to a renowned private school to instruct a phonology workshop to all Elementary English teachers.

I love to travel and I have lived in a few countries besides Ecuador like Colombia, Italy, Chile, and now the USA. In all these countries, I've taught and continue to teach various classes in English and in Spanish. Teaching people of all ages and from different countries, and living abroad have positively widened my understanding of the world, people, cultures, traditions, languages, and of language acquisition. I have to say I am truly fortunate and grateful of the great opportunities life has given me.

I am happily married to an extraordinary educator from Green Bay, Wisconsin, and we have two wonderful daughters, born in Italy and in Ecuador. My husband and I are raising our girls to be bilingual in English and in Spanish. We’re continuing with the international-bilingual family tradition!

Some of the things I love is singing and music. My family and I are very much involved in music on a daily basis. We're either creating our own music, playing an instrument, signing and harmonizing to everyday songs, or singing Karaoke on our Saturday nights. I also enjoy thinking up and creating my own didactic material for my classes and all my own material for My BabyLingua families.

My BabyLingua Journey

My BabyLingua is a dream that officially began in 2015. My most hands-on intimate practice began with my own two daughters, starting in pregnancy, then after birth and continuing on throughout their first years, thoroughly analyzing day by day their growth in all aspects of language in English, Spanish, and Italian (with my first daughter while living in Italy). Everything I've learned in my career and all the incredible experiences I've had in this path have allowed me to put it all into practice with my own girls. It's been amazing to observe how much good it's done for them. Their language and communication abilities are very advanced and these corroborate all scientific data of how applying different language strategies on a daily basis in every interaction starting at the earliest age can do wonders. My girls are the reason why My BabyLingua exists.

I've launched My BabyLingua in Ecuador and in the USA, and worked with families and their newly born babies, guiding them in their language journey. I've visited them in their homes and observed how they interacted with their baby and with language. We had lengthily, in-depth conversations and put into practice intentional structured communication strategies while working together with their babies. These parents gained a lot of knowledge and they implemented it all with their babies on a daily basis. These strategies are now their way of life.

I want to dedicate my life to guiding parents and their children with this incredible world of language. I want to transmit to you this love and passion I have for languages, in hopes of passing it onto your own family. I know we can make our children have a better life, a more prepared future, and live in a better world. Isn't this what every parent wants for our special little ones?

Testimonials

"It was so enlightening to do MyBabyLingua with Vanessa! She was so knowledgeable about different developmental stages and had many fun and useful activities to build a strong bond and increase communication with our baby!! She is so talented and we have loved having her on our prenatal and postpartum team with us!"

“Vanessa is truly knowledgeable regarding language and child development. Being in “survival mode” when we first brought our daughter home, Vanessa was a great support to us and encouraged us to remember the importance of language even for a newborn. She gave us tools and exercises to incorporate between our sessions to expand my comfort speaking to our newborn throughout the day even when it felt silly to me. Vanessa is a gem!”
                      ~ Catherine, USA

“The creativity, ability, knowledge and experience that Vanessa has is truly unique and that makes her very special.

When I met Vane, it was the answer to our prayers of what we wanted at that moment. My son at the time was 3 years old and my husband and I had always talked that it would be excellent if our son learned a second language (we speak Spanish), but learning it almost like his first language, by playing and exploring the language on his own. To achieve this, we had to look for a person who would have many skills and be truly bilingual, who would also be aligned with the respectful and loving parenting style, and whose classes would be so playful that they wouldn't  even feel like they were classes. I came to think that maybe I was asking for a miracle and that's when I met Vane and, talking a little bit with her, I realized that she was the ideal person.

We started with the "classes" that were actually fun and pleasant moments in English. In a few days my son, only 3 years old, began to speak and understand English as if it were a part of him. When he entered school (bilingual modality), the teachers highlighted his excellence in English and even now he is one of the few who maintains a conversation in English without problem.

Vane could not continue with her wonderful classes with my son, because she moved to another country. Even almost 3 years later, we are still very sad because we have not been able to find a person with the same characteristics and skills to teach as Vane. We miss her enormously and it is a real shame not to be able to have her around.”

"Vanessa has been instrumental in my three children learning to speak and love the Spanish language!  Her commitment to interactive learning made each class fun!  Her expertise as a linguist along with having been raised by an American mother and Ecuadorian father in Quito, Ecuador—gave her the unique talent of speaking both languages as a native speaker!  She is such a blessing to our family on our journey to learning Spanish!  I can’t recommend her highly enough!  She is who you want teaching your kids Spanish!"

We absolutely loved our experience with Mrs. Vanessa. She is kind, engaging, and made learning fun. My son truly looked forward to every class and picked up so much in just a year.

We were sad to stop due to school and activity schedules, but it had nothing to do with our experience. We would have continued if we could. We’re so grateful for our time with her and highly recommend her to other families!

               ~ Jenica, USA

"Vanessa worked with me as a teacher for many years in Quito, and I would recommend her for any type of teaching environment.

She is a very interesting, active and dynamic teacher who tries always to understand her students and adapt her teaching and material to their needs.

Always willing to work with others to attain their goals, she has a friendly, outgoing personality that makes her a joy to work with."
