Games are always fun to play for everyone, especially for children. But babies in our bellies? Sure thing! They're already playing in their little cozy nook as they wiggle and grab their feet and toes, and when they toss and turn, or when sucking on their thumbs, and even when they kick and push. Since babies can hear mom and outside voices and noises in mid to third trimester of pregnancy, and they can also feel our pushing or poking on their arms, feet, knees, etc., then we can absolutely create games by taking advantage of these simple things, but by also incorporating our words to every single experience. Remember.... babies can hear us, so language is a must!
So many fun things we can do with our babies and language, like name recognition games, syllables and words games, greeting games, question-answer games, poking and pushing games tied to words, to music, to reading, to talking, and to all mentioned above. By also adding anticipation games, where we wait for baby's response before we move on, we can observe that our baby is understanding the interaction, wants more of it, and, hence, is absorbing and understanding the sounds of words little by little. Plus, having awareness that there's more out there.
Let's not forget about bonding. These are excellent games that cultivate connection, love, care between mom, dad, anyone, and that beautiful growing baby.
My BabyLingua loves to play games with pregnant moms and their babies! We will guide you in the many games you and anyone else can play and guide you in the way we can add language to these special moments. Games are always such a kicker for us all!
